EOR Has Not Called Out Fillet Weld Size

I'm reviewing a set of structural plans where there are a bunch of fillet weld symbols that have no size associated with the callouts. What's the standard of practice for this case? Fabricator sizes them based on some minimum criteria?

For structural steel, the standard practice is to show the size. However, I have seen general notes and specifications that say to use the minimum unless noted otherwise. Or, sometimes the notes or specs will say 3/16” or minimum per AWS D1.1 whichever is greater
 
In the same vein: when a weld symbol has no length specified, the detailer/welder is to assume the weld applies to the full length of the interface. This is one of my most common markups.
 
Where is the project located? In the eastern north america markets the connections are usually designed by the fabricators engineer for the forces on the drawings. The EOR may call out welds or details that are conceptual but the expectation is that the fabricator will do the connection design.
 
After scouring the plans I found a note that stated "Unless a larger size of fillet weld is specified on the plans, provide a minimum size of weld per AISC Specification Table J2.4." He's referencing the Manual of Steel Construction Allowable Stress Design 14th Edition.

It's a Bridge project where the EOR is welding shear tabs on to the webs of some W12x279's Girders and doesn't call out these weld sizes.

I understand that some parts of the US operate in this way but this still feels so foreign and strange to me.
 
What is AASHTO's minimum, any different than AISC? Just curious.

From AASHTO Table 6.13.3.4-1:

Base metal Thickness <= 3/4" = 1/4" minimum fillet
Base metal Thickness > 3/4" = 5/16" minimum fillet

From AISC Table J2.4

Base metal Thickness <= 1/4" = 1/8" minimum fillet
Base metal Thickness <= 1/2" = 3/16" minimum fillet
Base metal Thickness <= 3/4" = 1/4" minimum fillet
Base metal Thickness > 3/4" = 5/16" minimum fillet
 
Thanks. Seems the EOR didn't refer the appropriate code, but covered the base. I guess fatigue wasn't an issue then (This is just a noise).
