Equipment for performing weld overlay on nozzles smaller than 3 inches

Hi everyone,

Could you recommend a machine for performing internal weld overlay on nozzles with a diameter of 3 inches and below (e.g., a 2" LWN #300, which has an internal diameter of about 50 mm)?

We routinely perform weld overlay on heat exchangers, vessels, etc., but we do not have the appropriate equipment for small-diameter nozzles.

Ive once seen a demo of Polysoude where they (for a customer in the EU, perhaps NL) had to internally clad some small dia large length (say 6 mtrs?) pipe. Dont know the exact dimensions, but you may give them a try.

If the overlay is stainless steel why not use a solid stainless steel nozzle?

If the solution were that simple (and luckily it isn’t), the number of engineers in this field would drop dramatically.

I've done this several times for small nozzles and it's very easy.
What's difficult?
Be practical.
 
r6155, some of our clients have experienced problems for integral nozzles (for example in SS) welded directly on a CS shell internally cladded in SS, so simply they do not permit and you have to clad also the nozzle. Unfortunately this is mandatory.

Again @r6155, be productive and helpful when you comment rather than being dismissive.

Also, using solid SS alloys on CS+Clad vessels are prohibited by most Owners/Contractors due to thermal expansion difference which causes localized stresses. Those are only utilized on near ambient temperatures.
 
The use of corrosion resistant integral or weld metal overlay cladding or lining material of chromium‐alloy stainless steel with a chromium content of over 14% is not recommended for service metal temperatures above 800°F (425°C).
