Pouring a new mat foundation (supported on piles) right beside an existing mat foundation that is supported on piles. New equipment, with a housekeeping pad, will be added on top of the existing mat slab. We specified to cut out part of the existing mat to accommodate the new construction, but we wanted to leave enough so the new equipment would sit entirely on the existing. The contractor cut more than what we wanted, so now the pad would need to straddle the joint. I don't really like this just in case there is differential movement, although that should be reduced due to the piles. Anyone do something like this before?
