Hi!

I´m searching a EQUIVALENT of SAE AMS STD 66 to ASTM specification for wire ropes (This is of SS Type 304 or 302). Can anyone help me where to find it please?

Thanks to all!!

Thanks TVP.

I have checked it and it is about Standard Specification for Stainless Steel Rope Wire......is there any place that I can justify this?

Thanks anyway!!

Saver2008;
There is not enough information provided regarding equivalent use of this material. The reference to ASTM standard specification is wire used to make wire rope. The acceptability of using this or other material specification is dependent on a detailed engineering review for service and any regulatory/code requirements. The bottom line is you have to decide on acceptability for use.

The wire rope is made of SS 304. It meets Federal specification RR-W-410E. I´ve found that ASTM 1023/1023M is a replacement of RR-W-410 (I want to thank to Mr Berkshire, due to he provided me about ASTM 1023) but this ASTM 1023 is for only Carbon steel, not for SS.
On RR-W-410E, when it mentions about the material, it is mentioned that it meets SAE AMS STD 66. But How I have a client that everything be of ASTM....so I need an equivalent of this spec.

What do you think?

Have you reviewed RR-W-410E specification below?

There is no equivalent anything. You will need to form the wire rope per the attached specification based on wire rope classification. Using wire from the suggested ASTM specification you will need to test the wire rope breaking strength to this specification to justify use under corrosion resistant steel.

Thanks Metengr!!

I have given into account that there are some specs for specified subjects (ASTM mainly for pressure items or relationated and SAE for mechanical purposes mainly automotive), maybe for that reason it is not possible that exist for each ASTM spec its equivalent to SAE or other spec equivalent.
