Does anyone know of any special procedures (from safety perspective) for erection of a tank of 140' in height? We are planning to use jack-up method and wanted to know if any temporary guy ropes would be needed for each shell course to ensure stability during jack-up? Something else as well?

Any thoughts on this?

Yes, I agree this is a seriously abnormal height for a tank. But this is a Thermal Energy Storage tank and there are severe space restrictions. The tank dia is going to be close to 130 ft, but the height is critical here. Going by OSHA, the tallest TES tank in the world was constructed by CBI and it's 150' tall. So, this is going to be pretty close. Anyone here knows if CBI did the erection using jack-up or conventional?

Any other concerns that you feel would need to be addressed? FYI, we are in seismic Zone 2B.

Thanks.

CBI engineers are the rock stars in this field... (like Mick Jaeger, they have been around forever and do the best work)

I wouldn't let anyone else do this tanks and I wouldn't listen to recommendations from anyone else

If the tank is 300 feet in diameter who cares that it is 140 feet high (just kidding)? If it is 30 feet diameter you have a stack and guy lines are common. Can you get us more information on the diameter? Wind and seismic loads are always a concern for erecting almost any tank but they are quantifiable and relatively easy to design for once you have recognized the issues. Maintaining roundness is also a concern under wind loading, tank erectors have a variety of means to deal with this. 140' is high for a tank, there are lots of tanks 125 foot high being erected by many firms, certainly you'd want to get a crew that has experience in your height category. There is not a lot of magic to it but I'd want a company / owner representative experienced in such projects on site no matter who does the work.
