Hi All,
When i try to do a close surface on a surface part which is a wheel rim,i get the error close operator: "an opening in the selected body cannot be closed by one single planar face. Modify the part".i get this error frequently when i try to convert surfaces to solids. Please suggest me a solution for this error. Thanks in Advance.

first of all in options visualization check highlight boundaries. this will help to find gaps. now you can use healing or what ever to close a gaps.
upload your 3d.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.Let me check and get back to you with the 3D.

Hi,

I am posting my model here. You can find green boundaries here in the wheel rim. Please let me know why CATIA displays boundaries ( green lines ) only in this area. Also please let me know the exact meaning of internal edge and why does a body does not have boundary when it is closed. Please expalin these concepts.Thanks.

did you attached any document? I don't see any

definitely open edges. use healing with a tolerance of 0.005. if it' not helps then raise tolerance until green boundaries are gone.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.what do u mean by open edges? are they overlapping edges? Please explain.

open edge in a surface is an edge that does belong to only 1 face ( the face is the subelement of the surface).

in the following example we have 2 surfaces (each surface is mono-face here. the join will be multi face surface)

This is the join, the distance between faces are bigger than the merging distance 0.001mm
you see in green all open edges

we can increase the merging distance up to 0.1mm, here is does work and the join show new open edges:

This will work for surfaces away from each other of intersecting surfaces.

I prefer to increase merging distance in JOIN than using HEALING.

Also, if I can, I would re build few surfaces instead of using HEALING.

I'm not saying healing is bad, I'm just saying it would be the last tool I use to 'fix' problem.
