Any recommendations as to a nice software package that is good for creating cost estimates? Application would be for small process engineering facilities ($1 to $20 million capital)?

They have a program called Cleopatra and CleoFast.

Cleopatra is for making Multidisciplinary estimates.
CleoFast is for making quick estimates based on a mix of proven factor methods.

A few questions - is this for internal projects or for quoting new business? Is there any interest in integrating schedules, project management, actual labor or purchasing after the estimate is completed?

Hi mark,

Cleopatra is also used for a contracting out tool and here in holland there is an interface with Primavera (scheduling) and Kildrummy (cost control).

Cause Cleopatra is working with unitrates and labour norms (like page) you can calculate also your labour time and use it in Primavera. but also out of primavera back into Cleopatra.

Cleofast is for making estimates based on well known factor estimate methods.

Depending on what you are looking at estimating - is it dealing with metals, plastics, chemicals, etc.?

For manufacturing type estimates, both internal and external, Costimator works quite well by developing a process routing to various equiment/workcells(

but does require a process knowledge base. Boothroyd Dewhurst DFMA (

more generic and provides a basic routing structure. SEER (

is similar to the above.

I am new to the cost engineering field. I am working in a joint venture contract where most of our projects are sewer and water related improvement projects. Some as small as $50,000 to $100,000 and others as big as double figure millions.

Currently, have a project dealing with sewer pipe replacement using pipe bursting.

Are the tools recently described in previous posts applicable for my projects?

If not, can anyone point me in a more appropriate directions?

Cause Cleopatra is using Unit rates you perfectly can use the software.
It is an open system that is designed for mulitdiciplinairy use. So you can use differend databases to built up your estimates.
