Etabs - Importing or editing default load combos

I often need to use custom load combos in Etabs. Does anyone know how to edit the default list in Etabs, or import load combos from another project?

This thread (thread802-357265) gave a promising approach, but I can't get it to work. I edited the .$et file in notepad and saved it. I reopened the model, hoping it would reference the edited .$et file and update the load combos in my project, but it didn't. The additional information is still in the .$et file, it just doesn't cause Etabs to create the additional load combos.

Any suggestions on how to get this to work, or other approaches?

Thanks!

Hello,

Two suggestions:

1. Make sure all of the loads mentioned in the combinations, exist in the define load section.

2. Writing in the notepad, make sure you give two spaces at the begining of the line.

Thanks for the reply. I think I checked for that, but will go back and double check.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I've seen one person use VBA coding in excel (I believe in the form of a Macro) to generate all of the load combinations. It involved moving the ETABS file into a specific folder and then running the macro. The ETABS file would then have all of the load combinations generated. Unfortunately I don't have any links to how to do this, I just know it's possible.
