My company wants to purchase some EE design software.
Does anyone have any experience or recommendation about ETAP or SKM or any other design software?
Is ETAP getting to be the most popular?
We want something that can connect at our power plant and record and analyze transients there
causing buses to nuisance trip.
And then we would know what parameters to change to avoid the nuisance tripping.

Have little experience (demo) with ETAP but have a lot of experience with SKM. Have always found SKM very easy to use and the support has always been quick to respond in most instances when I contacted them.

I thought the GUI was nicer in ETAP.

I don't think SKM can record live data of your system? You should install some PQ meters for a week or so and take it from there.

I have used EasyPower for many years. There is a feature to link meters to a SCADA database but I have never used it.

ETAP is more used in the U.S. than SKM for industrial systems. SKM is cheaper.

I don't know what parameters you are adjusting but we ,a utility, use relay test sets and playback comtrade files to verify the performance of a relay to unique or new settings. I don't know how much confidence you can have as to how your relays will operate during a transient event without testing them directly with the waveforms.
