Exclude instance from a Part Family without exporting to a new part (TC 10.1 + NX 9) 1

Hi all!
We're testing Manufacturing Resource Library in Teamcenter. I think we made a mistake, because we've used part families to create tool geometry. Let me make myself clear, the situation is as follows:
1. We have a part family, that controls about 600 instances (there are lathe inserts there);
2. These instances are included to almost 500 assemblies as a component;
3. These assemblies were used in almost 100 CAM projects as a tool for gouge verification;
4. Here is the main problem: we've finally discovered, that there are about 50 moderate mistakes in part family geometry, the WCS were placed the wrong way, some of the angles, that are not included in family template and so on.
Now we face a problem, because of wrong geometry we have to re-assemble around 200 tool assemblies and check around 30 CAM project, it will take too much time, mainly because now we aren't able to correct the instances directly, but only via part family.
Is there any way to exclude part from part family, make it independent without exporting to a new part file? I will appreciate any help, great thanks!

you can do a save as on the part family member, thereby cutting the "membership". But then you need to replace the member in the Assembly with the new.

Why can't you update the part family ?
If you can, ( update the family template) then open the spreadsheet , select all lines , "Add-ins - Part Family - Update Parts".
then , some time later when all 600 members have been updated..., all you need to do is open the affected assemblies and save .

Hi Tomas,

Unfortunately, we don't have a possibility to update the part family in Teamcenter, because all part families are connected to the manufacturing resource library classes within Teamcenter, therefore, to solve all geometry problems we have to edit part family template at once and then update all instances. If we'll later find another issue even in one of instances - we have to correct the whole template and make a full update for it instances, then checking associated assemblies over and over again. It was our dramatic mistake to use template part for MRL classes. Therefore i'm trying to find a way to break the part family link without exporting/save as, to minimize our further rework.
Teamcenter MRL uses TCL scripts to generate instances from family table within Teamcenter, that is why i guess the NX approach doesn't meet here.

There might be workaround ...
When one exports an assembly out from Teamcenter, depending on the customer defaults settings, part family members will be exported and "detached" from the family.
- the member will be converted to a "normal part".
I do not know what will happen if this member is imported to Teamcenter with the Overwrite option.

Since the above happens , there might be some code support to convert a family member to a regular part. - Cowski ?
( I do not have coding knowledge)

You need to test the settings in the customer defaults , they are slightly confusing on this topic.

Hello @Toost!
I am testing your solution and it giving good results. Anyway it is much more faster than manage it manually. Great thanks!
