Has anybody had experience with designing headers with primary & secondary collectors ie. 4-2-1 layout for inline 4 cyl engines as opposed to 4-1 collectors. I have been making some headers with mixed results for some time now. The designs have been based on what I have seen at racetracks and in magazines. However I still really don't know why one design works & another doesn't. The fabrication side of it is the easy part. Are there any relatively inexpensive modelling packages available that anyone has had some success with.
Regards,
MB

Thanks MB. I didn't wat to intrude, but the topic is timely.

SSO is for Super Street Outlaw. I also support a Real Street car (R/S).

Larry,

I've got a new toy, but it's the same vintage! take a look at the "old" Mustang!

The header situation is a bit frustrating, but I guess everyone is in the same boat?

I've got to thank you for the help you've given me. The C3H heads you cleaned up for me will probably win the MSRA R/S title this year and set a new mark in R/S.

Anyhow, do you suggest tuning a step header pipe to it's own rpm, or shoot for the perceived engine rpm?

PS, you can call me Henry!

Henry ... thanks a million for the compliment :)

with the C3H heads and new car...How fast ET/MPH are you running ??

..with the unequal lengths,
on the Header specs , get on the Dyno or tryout at the DragStrip to be sure !!

LOL! You are welcome Larry! I need to clarify though. I've sold those heads to a fellow racer (Larry Palmer) for his R/S car. I think I can geta pic of it:

It's the blue Mustang. He had a problem at Cecil county, but it was just a tune up race in the first place.

He'll be running R/S for the most part. Engine:

9.500 deck Dart block w/4.125 bore
3.750 Motorsport billet crank
14:1 JE Pistons
C3H Yates heads
Ultradyne Roller: 286/302 @ .050
The single 4bbl Nitrous fogger on my site (700 hp 2 stage)
847 hp @ 8300 rpm on motor (dang headers and exhaust!!!!)

Haven't got a good run on it yet. He's short shifting @ 8200......!!!!...and has wrong rear gear and tranny!!!!!

Give him time...he'll come around and get the title!

I'm setting up a combination with those 6 bolt BT heads on my site. The white Mustang is mine. I'll run the Hogan tunnel ram with a 423 cid alloy Windsor...and dang un-equal length headers!!! Plenty of nitrous too.

I'd like to send those BT heads to you in the offseason to look at.
