Expansion joint between new and existing building - Grade level

Good morning,
I am working on a new building that is right up against an existing building, where there are passages between the new and existing buildings. Neither the new or existing buildings has a basement, they are both founded at grade. At upper levels, I have expansion joints to separate the new and existing floors, but at grade level, is it sufficient to just put a compressible material between the new slab on grade and the existing perimeter frost wall?
Thanks,
