Hi all
I have to design one Regular Shape building with dimensions (55.9 m x 23 m )G+2 Building (overall height 12.3 m). According to code I we have to provide expansion joint in buildings if the length of the building exceeds 45 m . Is there any way to avoid expansion joint for this particular building, as the length along major axis is 55.9 m only.

Thanks and Regards

We need more info. If you had steel beams supported by CMU walls, you would certainly have to be careful with expansion joints.

Is the building steel frame, concrete, pt concrete, precast concrete? - etc.

Hi AELLC
Thanks for your quick reply
Sorry I forgot to tell that complete building is RCC Building (Moment frame)

OK, if the building length is 55.9m and your allowable is 45m, then isn't that saying you definitely need a joint?
