Hi all,
I have exported a 3D model from xsteel as a 3D Dxf Faces, imported it into AutoCad 2004 and now wish to export it into 3D Studio Max for a presentation. The problem is that I need to explode/breakup the AutoCad model as when it is imported into 3D Max, it is one large block and I can't add different textures/effects.

Any Ideas?

you can assign different faces of the object different layers and then export to 3ds max. you can then add different textures to that faces.

you don't need to explode it. you can specify how 3Ds import Autocad models ~ either by layer or by entity or even by colour
you can also open Dgw files directly, edit them and save back to the dwg file. If you explode them then you lose all information and it'll be a pig to edit if you ever take it back into acad.
Incidentaly, you can also create multi-materials in 3DS and apply different submaterials to different faces ~ so there's no need to explode.
