Hi,

Could someone give some advise or links on advantage of explosion welded plate over roll bonded clad plates?
All I know is expolsion welded plate, only few people in the world can do it, roll bond is more available from your local shop.

Thanks

Spoonful, as I understand it, explosion bonded can be furnished as a single piece with little or no restriction on size, where roll bond must be bought in at least two pieces as it is rolled face-to-face, and there may be a minimum as to size / weight.

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

EB plates can be larger, up to the size of the backing plate since you can splice the alloy cover sheets and these go away when you cond.
RB has more limitations on materials, since they must (should) be post-roll heat treated, many combinations do not have compatable HT temperatures.
With either I would require extensive UT to confirm bonding, it is cheap compared to the price of hte material.

In the past, EB plates were more expensive than RB plates in the USA and the wait time for RB plates was quite long. The benefit of EB plates today are still substantially lower delivery lead times. There are also more manufacturers of EB plate, globally, and costs are now comparable, especially when the number of plates required is limited to one or a few.
