Export AutoCad dxf to other programs

I’m not an engineer, I’m a desperate artist and designer who snuck in here? I’m hoping someone can help me with a small problem????. I have been creating products in coreldraw and importing them into AutoCad 2000. I redraw them in AutoCad and then save the files as dxf and dwg. The problem is when I bring them to the guy with the laser machine. He has a different program and when he opens the files he has a lot of caps. He finds that they are “common lines and he deletes them and has to go in an manual resnap the lines together. This is a lot of work and doesn’t seem quite “right”! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

When you "redraw them in AutoCAD", put all your objects on a new layer. Then delete everything else. Then make the dxf file. Does the laser guy need lines connected together ( a POLYLINE ) or just lines that share endpoints? You can draw polylines in AutoCAD - the object will be one line with many vertices.

Thanks IFR that's basically what I do. I redraw the lines in a differant layer and connect them end point to end point. I then convert them to polyline and close the perimeter. George (the laser guy) opens it in his program and deletes common lines, what ever they are? and ends up with gaps. But then he opened on of the AutoCad file and didn't delete the common lines and the laser software seemed to be able to read it correctly. But on another file the laser had trouble.

Do you saveas a dxf or do you do type in dxfout on the command line and then pick the polylines? Are you using lightweight polylines or regular ones? Do you purge the drawing? Do you delete all other objects? Just changing the visibily or freezing layers does not stop those objects from being in the dxf file.

wow, I don't do any of the above! But they seem like great tips. I'm going to take your suggestions to George and his team as I'm sure your suggestions will make more sense to them and they can give me tips on how to implement them as I'm only familiar with only specific tasks of AutoCad

As do your questions at this point the only one I can answer in the affirmitive is that I save the files as DXF
and not dxfout
