Morning!
I'm trying to do some pretty simple stuff at work- I 've been opening stp files, then start/drawing, drawing my dimensions etc, then trying to save my assembly so that I can move it around, pop it on different backup drives, send it to people etc. So i've been exporting a part file (File->Export->Part) to try to bundle it all together.
so the dialogue box that comes up, I think I've deciphered it as best I can, but I would really like to check I've got everything right.
Part specification (New/Existing) I assume this is a sort of "save as new file, or choose existing file to overwrite" option.
Specify part To choose the parts for above.
specify exported position not sure. I've noticed it greys out the drawing selection, so I've left it blank, but it'd be good to know what that's for. Something for car line etc maybe?
Object selection scope (All parts/Specify parts) This pretty much makes sense, I either choose which parts I want to export or I select all of them. That's fine- I select all.
Class selection/drawing selection class selection I assume means selecting the part in modelling- although it does mean that I have to export as PRT whilst already in modelling, unless I click select all-correct? As it stands, I've been needing to export everything anyway. Drawing selection makes sense.
Fully load parts I assume when the assembly references unloaded parts, this opens them up to export? I do it, anwyay.
Highlight choice Just a visual aid, so you can see what you're exporting?
Information/restart selection I assume information tells you if it's going to work (Always seems to be greyed out though), Restart selection is for when it won't.
Feature parameters Unsure.
Expression transfer mode This makes sense, but not a lot of my stuff has been made with expressions, so it doesn't really concern me too much. I just use copy if referenced, since I want the new part to be stand alone.
Now, I click ok.
Do I want to add the current part as a component of the new part? I click no, to export a copy as a new part.
Now I get my problem.
Some selected objects cannot be exported because they depend upon other objects which are not being exported
These are all the dimensions and lines that I put on my drawing. This is pretty much half of the point of exporting the file, so I'd quite like them on there.
So, this is my question. Why aren't they exporting when I've selected all parts under object selection scope?
Thanks
Simon
