exporting to pdf in NX 6

On our company we have 12 ug licenses mostly running on XP 64 machines and some on XP 32.
On 2 of these machines we can export to PDF, on the others we can not. The configuration of NX is identical on all of them.

Please can Anyone tell me what is the problem

I've seen an issue, which may or may not be similar to what you're having - if you have a dual-panel display setup, and you're running NX6.0.1 MP1 or lower (I think) on the secondary display, export to PDF did not work. I can't be absolutely positive but I * think * that 6.0.1 MP2 fixed this problem. Also, placing NX on the primary display also seemed to fix that particular issue.

Thanks for your tip, but we are not running NX on dual display machines.

When we try to export to PDF, everything looks fine until the box telling that it's creating de PDF file appears and disappears almost immediately without creating the file.

Anything in the NX log file at that point that might lead you to the problem?

Those symptoms may be coincidentally similar to what I've seen happen with write access problems elsewhere in the past. By all means try to run the same procedure logged in as an administrator user. If that works then you have your solution in waiting you just need to figure out what it is that the user needs write access to and the above post which points you at the log file should help with that.

What are you trying to export? When we make PDF's where I work we use a free PDF printer (the one we use is called CutePDF) but I'm sure there are a fair few freeware programs out there

Thanks for all your replies.

We use FreePDF_XP and it works fine, it's just that it's easier to use the NX export function.

It's not a question of loggin in as administrator because the outcome is always the same - no file.

To add to the problem, one of the machines that did not export, yesterday started exporting and we haven't changed or installed anything.

Further down you'll find a part of the syslog file where we try to export to pdf without any results.

Log file looks just like mine that works. Have you tried using the Windoze search for *.pdf files created in the last day? Before the Export to PDF was an option in NX, I would write postscript files out using the Plot function and then I would Distill those into a PDF file with Adobe Acrobat. I never could figure out why, but even though I would specify the folder where to export the *.ps file to, it would always end up putting it in a temp folder under my account somewhere instead.

Thank you for your reply but NX does not create the file. We can tell if the file is created by the time the message that the system displays saying it is creating the file remains on the screen. It takes some time when the file is created and it is not it disappears almost immediately.
