Extend surface menu greyed out

I have a model with a lofted surface, I want to extend the surface to lengthen it but the Extend surface icon on the toolbar is greyed out. Any help is appreciated

Check to see if the Extend Surface function works for other less complex surfaces. If it does, then you just can't use it for your loft condition.

the model is a simple rectangular shape with one end surface shaped like ribbon candy. I have tried simply selecting one of the flat surfaces of the side of the model and the extend surface wont un-grey for that either

I am assuming that a simple square sketch when extruded then has 6 sides / surfaces that should be able to surface extend. Is that correct?

OK, I see that a when I created the original model it was made from two sketches that were lofted to create the lofted base feature. The surface I want to edit with the extend surface command does not recognize it as a valid lofted surface, even though it was created as a lofted base feature. Go Figure... I can re change my approach to this by using the lofted surface command from the get go, and then I should be able to use the extend surface command without any problems.

No. The Extend Surface command will not work on solid faces, which is what an extrude from a square sketch would create.

Do an offset surface at a value of 0.0 and choose the Surface not Face Selection filter the non green one. This works for many operations.

Another way to switch your solid feature to a surface is to use the Delete Face option on the Surface toolbar. This will allow you to remove one or more of the 6 faces and make the rest into surfaces.
