What constitutes extended coverage? If I were using a residential 4.9 sprinkler in a corridor under NFPA 2007 13 11.2.3.3.6 specifies or when extended coverage sprinklers are used. Where does the extended start, 16'x16' , 20'x20'? What's standard 14'x14' spacing?

Recommended for you

NFPA 13-2010 3.6.4.3 Extended Coverage Sprinkler: A type of spray sprinkler with maximum coverage areas as specified in sections 8.8 and 8.9 of this standard.

If you were using a residential 4.9 sprinkler, NFPA 2007 13 11.2.3.3.6 would be the wrong place to look for design criteria. You would want to check out 11.3.1 Residential sprinklers.

maybe anything past 15 x 15

the designer picks the head they want to use. can be either a regular spray head or extended coverage. Either one can work on the same design. You just would use less heads with extended coverage.
