Hello,
There is a project to put in a new building and we will have to tie into the existing data network. I know we will need to provide a new switch in the new building but my question is how to tie this into the existing site network? Would this be by fibre cabling to a spare port on the switch in the closest building or is it done another way?

Thank you

Generally, an SFP port on the switch will be used to tie the switches together with fiber.

Thanks for this. I will dig into this further.

Thanks again.

Fiber is probably best, but there are some new and very capable wireless technologies available to extend the network without trenching, conduits and cables. Ubiquiti is one source you might look at.
