Looking for some guidance and references regarding exterior concrete stairs. We do a good amount of stair work but it's mostly steel and we do work with concrete, just not elevated stairs. We got a job which has a pedestrian bike stair for a park. The client would like it to be concrete. It's about 60' in length and we were planning on putting a support column at the top landing and at the mid span, and have it sit on a footer at the bottom. What we're looking for is some typical connections that we can reference at the abutments. Something that would let the stair slide. We're looking at some pedestrian bridge connections but would appreciate any reference regarding exterior concrete stairs. Also, any advice or special attention we should give regarding concrete stairs.

I would recommend starting with your local DOT for pedestrian/bike bridge details. Also pay attention to the concrete mix design. You will want low permeability and air entrainment (if you're in cold climate).

Sliding details typically involve a Teflon plate.
