Exterior expansion Joint Nosing Angle 1

We have specify angles at edge of expansion joint in concrete parking slab which would be subjected to corrosive environment and traffic loading. Can we specify stainless steel, galvanized or hot dip galvanized or corrosive resistance steel. Please guide which is more practical.

Unless you have very special circumstances, I consider nosing angles to be a waste of money. They have the following disadvantages:

1. They must be prefabricated and on hand at the time of the concrete placement.

2. Once fabricated, dimensions for the concrete are fixed - regardless of field conditions.

3. Nosing angles must be placed accurately in the forms for them to be of any potential value.

4. It is very difficult (almost impossible, IMHO) to get well consolidated concrete under the angle.

5. They are costly, no matter which material is chosen.

6. If (and when) they come loose, you have a very big MESS on your hands.

We have constructed heavy industrial structures both ways, with and without nosing angles. The structures without them have been more successful, in every case.

If you have got to have them, hot-dipped galvanized steel is probably the most cost effective material - stainless steel, the best (but much more expensive).
