External threads!!! Help please

How do i make an external thread, like on the neck of a bottle? I really need to show the thread.
I've have seen all the messages on this forum but i'm still stuck. Could you please guide me through it?

Draw your Neck (E-diameter), without the thread portion/thickness. Then, do a Sweep for the thread. Use a Helix for the Guide Curve, and Sketch your Thread (Profile) for the Profile Sketch. Check out the Help on "Sweep" for more info. The main thing to remember is that each of the sketches most be touching at the beginning point of the Sweep, and usually the Helix starting point would be perpendicular to the Profile sketch.

I would reccomend practicing on a new part file. Put the Helix about an Axis thru the intersection of the Front and Right Planes, starting at say...the Right Plane. Then Put the Profile Sketch on whichever plane the Helix started at, Right Plane in this case.

The only way to make an external thread is by Helix. The Cosmetic Thread, in this case, does not make the outside thread.

I had to put a groove for cable on a winch drum and if I remember correctly all that I needed to do was sweep a profile about an axes. I started with a cylinder, put the profile on a perpindicular plane to the cycinder axes, clicked the helix button, filled in the blanks, bingo there it was. I think ! I'll check it out tonite and get back.
 
Well I was half right ! Here goes. I started with a cylinder, I chose a end and inserted a circle on the face that was the same dia as the circle,It can be bigger. I then closed the sketch and hightlighted the circle. I chose insert/curves/helix and filled in the blanks. Watch the satrting angle, I used 90. That should get you the helix. Next I chose a plane that was perpendicular to the starting point of the helix and inserted my profile at the end of the helix, mine was a small circle, and closed the sketch. Pick the helix and the profile, pick insert/cut/sweep and it was, threads!!You can cut threads this way or use insert/surface/sweep to add threads.

The tricky part here for me is the starting and ending thread portions. No one seems to have mentioned this. Your real world thread will not just end abruptly. You will have to create a separate sweep for these.
I continue the thread defining helix with a helix that passes inward towards the axis. I then create a sketch on the face at the end of the main thread. Extend this sketch down into the base material to avoid slight discontinuities. These two sketches form a sweep that defines the end of the thread.
These can be tricky to do. Be careful of the sweep options so you do not end up with little scrap pieces, discontinuities, and weird edges.
