Hi PEU,

If I understand your question....the only thing you need to do is to insert a NEW PLANE using the segment you want to use as reference, then start a new sketch on that same plane, select the segment you want to use, then use CONVERT ENTITIES, then you will have an IDENTICAL SEGMENT,

OR

You can use 3D Sketch CONVERT ENTITIES, but this command is limited in SW2005, SW2006 is more complete for 3D Sketch.

Hope this is answers your question..

You will need to use the Intersection Curve feature.

2D Sketch Method:-
1) Select (or create) a plane which intersects the portion of the parabola you need to generate geometry from.
2) Select the Intersection Curve icon or Tools > Sketch Tools > Intersection Curve
3) Click on the surface you want to generate geometry from.

3D Sketch Method:-
1) Select a surface
2) Select the Intersection Curve
3) Select the plane
4) Click on the surface

Either way, the geometry should automagically appear.

peu,
I tryed to open in sw2001 as iges and it didn't come in very well so opened it in ProE.. came in fine.. I exported it as a stp file and it then loaded into sw2001 fine

I can send you the step file, but I am not sure how that is done on this forum

I had trouble opening it in SW04, but SW05 had no problem.

cadcamguy ... you have to have the file reside on a webserver & then post the URL here. eg: PEUs igs file is in the temp folder of his website.

CorBlimeyLimey,

I had gotten the igs file from his site.
But in order for me to send something to someone here, then I need to upload it to my lil' Isp space and provide the link..correct?

There is no commonspace to upload something here?

I did notice the imageshack site...but something in a name tells me that's not the place for a step file ;-)

thanks

"I need to upload it to my lil' Isp space and provide the link..correct?"
Yes.

"There is no commonspace to upload something here?"
Unfortunately not ... too much of a security risk & too easily abused!

Correct ... Imageshack can only be used for bitmap files:-
jpeg, jpg, png, gif, bmp, tif, tiff and swf and to a max file size of 1MB.

Hi PEU,

"...and I want to create a more complex part using the inner parabola segment to create a sketch."

In simple words this is called a profile....that's not what I understood from your question...sorry...

Glad you still got it..
