Today I received the report stating that one of my fire pendants that was sent in for sample testing had failed, and I know that NFPA 25 states that all then must be replaced. My question is: Is there a timeline spelled out? I can only find that the work "must be done in a timely manner", or in "a reasonable manner", but nothing specific. We have been budgeting for this replacement for the past 3 years, and have it planned for 2020. Is this legal? Is it reasonable? I need specific code quoted, thank you.

Why did it fail, was it painted, damaged, corroded???? Call your AHJ and ask them, also call your insurance carrier. If they are giving you credit for a sprinklered building and you have a loss, they may not pay the claim since you know the sprinklers will not operate.

It is in a system that is old enough to require sample testing every 10 years. No damage, no paint, no corrosion. Failed to let water flow.

I have run into this before from an insurance point of view. I would go to the area where the head failed and test another 6 heads in the same area and see what happens. If all the heads tested were the same model, year, etc it maybe just that head. Perhaps something in the area caused the failure. This info would help the AHJ/insurance company have a better idea as to what is going on.
