Hi All
I am new to this group and a novice at abaqus, although I hope to get better.
I have a three-dimensional model of cortical and trabecular bone. I created this model from a CT scan of a person?s wrist. I wish to estimate the stiffness of the bone specimen (1 cm long) and also its failure load. My plan is to constrain the nodes on one side and simulate a compression of the specimen in Abaqus.
As regards finding the failure load, I have reviewed the literature to see what other people have done. Some researchers have used a linear elastic model and found when the strain in 2% of the elements exceeds a critical strain value. The failure load is the strain that causes this.
Another thought that I have is to use a linear elastic model and to remove elements from the model in abaqus when their maximum principal strain exceeds a critical value. This way I could simulate failure of the bone.
So I was wondering if people could help me by
giving me their thoughts on the easiest way to estimate the failure load in abaqus and how I might go about that
how would I monitor the strain in the elements and remove them. I understand I could use the *MODEL CHANGE command but would I implement this in a subroutine? I?m really not familiar with subroutines at all.
I understand that a linear elastic model is a simplistic approach but I am looking to get a simple model to work soon.
