Fast acting Valve to deliver charge of air

Hi guys

I am designing a punch device the can impact and punch through steel. I need a very high speed, high power actuator of some sort. I am thinking of using high pressure air with some sort of high speed actuating, high flow impulse valve.

Not wanting to reinvent the wheel I am looking to some existing designs for ideas. Possibly a valve in something like a Nail gun or Abattoir might work. But I’m trying to think of applications like this across our industries I can use for basic concept inspiration.

Please let me know if you have come across other types of actuators like this I could look into.

Thanks Compositepro but i haven't been able the thread you are talking about. I have found high speed valve threads to recreate water hammer but i think my application is quite different. Also i have talking about steel punch design but using conventional hydrolic presses. Compositepro could you please elaborate maybe there is some key words i am missing?
