Hi Team,

Could you explain ,Whether internal FBE Coating is necessary to protect from abrasive blasting like copper slag during the time of external painting on piping spools?

Piping spools have two open flages at both side, and internal FBE (like TK 210 ) has carried out before the application of external paint.

As per the sub contractor FBE have suffiicient properties which will not damage during the time of blasting.

Please tell me the proper reason also if FBE linear is required to protect from any high pressure (100 PSI) abrasive blasting?

Abrasive blasting is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure.

Abrasive blasting with slag will damage FBE if the FBE is hit with overblast.

Why not just plug the pipe ends while blasting the outside?

TomDOT,

Thanks.

We instructed to do the same way ,Close all open ends with proper hard board.

But i would like to know that what type of defect will appear ,if abrasive slag hit on internal FBE..like crack or any pin hole ???

Overblast is pretty obvious to anyone who has seen it before. Cracks or "pinholes" would be unusual. Look for the beginnings of a profile in the coating, like the profile produced in the steel being blasted (though hopefully more scattered.)
