It seems to me the plug and chug answer is wrong, they should have used an energy balance 1/2*k*x^2=1/2*m*v^2 and got the answer A. They've assumed constant acceleration. I've checked it two ways, pity they didn't.

Quite a few NCEES problems are awful in my opinion, one immediately comes to mind on the practice PE exam. There are actually a few errors in the PE formula handbook as well on something as simple as beams. Just took the PE exam last month and the questions seemed better than the FE exam at least.

I like the energy approach on this one.
