FEA on IV11

I’ve used inventor for a couple of years, but this is my first crack at professional with FEA. I am trying to analysis an I-beam skid with 4 lifting points, one at each end. I can’t seem to find a way to do the entire frame, only individual pieces. I figured that FEA would be able to analysis the frame as a whole. Can FEA analyze the entire frame? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hummel, if I understand you correct you have an assembly? I believe your FEA works with parts.

I just had this kind of problem yesterday - my IV 11 freezed, when I forced it to analyse one gate-frame. Very simple frame, just 9 "parts" (actually one part - derived from 9-part-assembly), but IV failed...

yes desimulacra, i have an assy, 6 i-beams and 4 lifting lugs. sounds similar to what konsruktor mentioned, but computer didnt freeze. tried to analyze it as a derived component but no luck. message came up stateing 'invalid geometery or features are extermly small in comparison to the overall dimensions.' thanks is advance for any help.

I should mention that I do believe you can do a derived assembly. This will create a part with "welded" joints.
FYI I don't use this, but we are looking at acquiring FEA and are talking to our VAR's, this is what they told me last week and applies to Inventor 11.
