Any kind of help is much appreciated.

As I insert a component into an assembly, the name of the added part in Feature Tree changes to
(-)Part name <1>(Default<<Default>_Display State1>)

Part Name is the file name of component.
What does (-) and <1>(Default<<Default>_Display State1>)means?
and is there anyway to stop them from being added?

the Feature tree seems to be so crowded and it's hard to find a specific part.

I'm using SolidWorks 2010 on windows 7.

thank you

thanks for your response.

The actual part name doesn't change. It's only the feature tree that shows them this way.

Here's a screen shot:

For example the first part name is "1-Left"
but as you see it's been changed to 1-Left<1>(Default <<Default>_Display State1>)

Moreover the context menu(Right click menue) of Feature Tree doesn't contain Rename (I'm able to rename the features under each part, but not the part name itself)

Any kind of further advice is much appreciated.

If you right click on the name of the assembly, you can choose what shows up via the 'Tree Display' menu. Bear in mind that with each selection the menu disappears so you'll have to repeat the step a few times.
The <1> represents the first instance of the item within the assembly. The second will have <2>, so on and so forth.

Also, the <-> means the part isn't fully fixed. Generally, to fully fix a part, it'll need three mates. Also, at the top of your tree is a search bar that will help you find parts in your tree.
I would strongly recommend you go through the built in tutorials (Help->SolidWorks Tutorials). They will help answer many of your questions.

Million thanks for your help
It did the magic.

If the tree is too "bushy" with parts you can move them to folders so the display is cleaner.
