Please advise how to deal with the following situation. We supply VFD based regenerative electrical dynamometers which
work as energy absorbers and feed the energy back to the grid. How to calculate and measure the net absorbing energy? Can this energy be used to offset the utility bills?
May be there were threads in the past on this co-generation
subject?

Are the VFD's designed to be regenerative? If so, you will need to discuss this with your utiltiy company as requirements vary. They may require a separate meter for the the dynomometers. They will probably require some level of protetive relaying to protect their system from your generator.

Suggestion: To reverse power flow, the VFD needs to have an Active Front End that complies with the Utility requirements to provide power to the Utility. VFD is called two-sided or four quadrant VFD.
