Does anyone know a good and free FEM 2-D mesh generator?
I found so many materials while using google.
I am wondering if some one can recommend me a good one.
Thanks very much.

Hi,
sorry, from what I know there is NO free GOOD mesher. Of course it depends upon what you may consider "good" (possibility of local refinements, possibilitty to set number of divisions on edges / surfaces, possibility to control expansion ratio inside the surfs, etc...), and which kind of elem shapes it can handle (only tria or also quads, only 1st-order or also parabolic, also degenerate forms or not, only free mesh or also mapped / swept, etc...).

Regards

Very simple mesh is OK.
triangle mesh, 1st order.
But I hope I can set number of divisions on edges and do local refinement.

calculix (I think) or z88 (definitely) will do what you want

There is a pre-processor for Franc2D that is free to download. I don't recall it's name immediately, but I'm sure you can do a web search and find Franc2D. This is a crack propogation code, so the mesh generator for it has refinement and other nice features. I believe the modeler is CASCA? Just a thought...
