I have created a spreadsheet to calculate the embedment depth of a bored pier in sandy soil.
I get same results as per Design example 1 for formulas B2 and B6, but different values for B4 and B5.
There is something not quite right in formula B5; the units are not right. It is made by 2 terms, the first "bγd" (m KN/m3 m), hence KN/m, and the second term is just "γd" (KN/m3 m), hence KN/m2.
And finally the intersecting wedges resistance (mine is higher than the one in the example). I calculated the full resistance to depth d with formula B2 (680 KN/m), than I calculated the reduced resistance to depth di with formula B4 (101 KN/m), then I deducted from 680 the full resistance to depth di (304 KN/m) and summed the 101 KN/m. result...477 KN/m (versus 4119 KN/m from the example).
Any thoughts?
Thanks
