File Won't Check in to PDM (has duplicate tool box reference)

I have experienced this situation a few times and want to get some advice. "Add my parts Wiz" has been used to load a part that we do not care to control (purchased). Prior to this, the part had been checked into an assembly and is considered by the PDM as controlled by revision. Upon check in the pdm sees the file in both places and aborts.=(

I have tried a few things to get around this:
1. Take ownership of the file, move to discard project and have admin clear the file (all is well).
(the file will check in at this point...I am sure that I will lose the reference and have to point to the new location upon next open or check out)
2. REname the file and change project inside PDMWorks. (not sure if this will work)

Is there a no nonsense approach to comparing My Parts to the vault? (Solidworks Explorer, maybe?)

What would those of you do who use PDMWorks?
(please, no scourging for lack of planning and discipline...I am not the only user)

In relation to your question;

Although there is the vault window in the task pane this can be misleading if files have been saved as the vault will see this as newer even if no actual change has taken place. Changing the PDM set up so that supporting files are opened as read-only helps with this.

Anyhow back to the question. I have used the add-in 'Soidworks Utilities' to compare features between a file on my C:drive and a file in the vault to see what is actually different. Unfortunately not a quick method for a lot of files.

If the file is not SW06 and your vault is, then you need to use Task Scheduler to update all your Vault files. OTherwise you will see this happen.

If you Check out the file, save it, Check it in ( check mark everything and check in anyway), Check out again, Change and save, Check back in it will go in without a problem... if you update the vault you will have to go through all this.
