Dear Gents,

I have a problem understanding Table QW-451.4 in ASME IX so i will go with direct questions hoping the answers will solve my confusion.

- According to table QW-451.4 If i have a WPS with a qualified range for groove welds from 3mm to 25 mm can i use this WPS to weld a fillet joint on a 30mm or 50mm Joints ?

- Also, If i have a WPS for a groove weld but this time with Preheat and PWHT Included shall i use the same PWHT and preheat requirement for welding a fillet weld if applicable ?

- I am in a situation now where i have a WPS for 3mm to 25 mm and i need to join two 35mm plates
together with fillet welds, can i do that according to tha table?

Thanks in advance

Acc. to table QW-451.4 all groove tests qualify all fillet sizes on all base metal
thicknesses and all diameters if impact tests are not required by the code of construction.
If impact tests are required in addition the minimum qualified base metal thickness of QW-403.6 applies.

Regards - Juergen

Groove weld qualifies the fillet weld of any size and thickness as per ASME Sec IX. so you are good to go
