Good day!

Anyone who has experienced fillet weld toe cracking of duplex stainless steel? We just experienced one in our desalination unit. This happened most likely several years after commisioning. Appreciate to receive your inputs.

Thank you.

Depending on the process, operation condition, damaged location, etc., the crack could be caused by weld defect, SCC, or fatigue. Can you share more details for the question?

Hi mk3223!

Concerned equipment is actually a two pass straight tube heat exchanger with a partition plate. Tube side service is sea water. Cracking has occured on the weld toe of the partition plate to shell fillet weld.
