Hello everyone,

What are the defects that you see in the attached image of a fillet weld? I have checked using a Bridge-cam guage, the undercuts ≤ 1mm. The throat length is acceptable according to AWS D1.1. The weld is of unequal legs. According to AWS D1.1 I dont find anything wrong in this weld except that it seems quiet ugly. The fusion line between the layers of weld is very irregular and it is creating a concavity which is unacceptable according to AWS D1.1 figure 5.4E, but then the height of concavity is more than the designed throat length so technically it becomes acceptable.

Any CWI here? Will you pass this weld?

Judging a weld by a photograph is not recommended. There's no depth, no perspective with a photograph. I can say that the weld beads were deposited with relatively high travel speed.

Thanks. I know, but I have client inspector coming in 2 days. So since I am new to the field, it will be good to have some comments from experienced people already.
 
Might be some undercut in that weld as well, but obviously the picture makes it hard to tell.
 
A 2 dimesional image with the lighting shown does not provide adequate info to judge. It appears to be a single pass weld with differnce in bead shape/size. Doee it meet minimum leg length? No way to tell.
 
I was debating whether the bottom was weld or not based on the lighting. Have no ability to discern concavity and concavity is accetable provided leg length is increased over min required.
 
Not appropriate to evaluate a weld by a photograph.
I will only say that it looks like it has been chemically cleaned. Has that lower toe been ground?

Its a multipass weld. 1st 2 passes are GTAW then 5 passes of SMAW. Yes I have checked the weld leg the length is according to the design.

To clarify a bit, I have attached updated image, the red lines show the ends of legs and the blue line shows the fusion line between weld passes which to me seems like a concavity. The weld fusion line has a lot of undercuts.

The weld has not been chemically cleaned. The image is taken after PT so there are remains of the white spray.

The result should have been like the traingle, but in reality looks like the arc starting from top which is then connected to bottom leg by a straight line.
 
It is more clear with your explanation. There should have been a pass put on the bottom before the last upper pass was deposited.
