No, that list is dynamic in that it changes based on the function that you're using. Unless you're using 'Global Selection', where you pick some object/item BEFORE selecting a function, the list will also act as an indication as what objects/items are legal for the operation in which you in. For example it might include both Curve and Edge if it's a function looking for say a Sweep path whereas it might only include an Edge if it was for a Blend. So the list is MORE than just a 'list' it's also feedback which can be a value if you're uncertain as to what the function is expecting you to do next. Therefore, if we allowed you to arbitrarily 'prune' this list it would destroy this aspect of its role in providing you with information that will help you to properly use whatever the function was that you were using at the time that you expanded the list.

That being said, if you feel that it tedious to continuously expand and select a object/item type as a filter, perhaps you should learn to properly use the QuickPick tool since this will allow you to easily select the objects/items that you wish to pick without having to set explicit filters but rather filter only the possible objects that could have been selected at the moment that you pressed MB1. I think that you will find that over the longhaul gaining the skill to use this workflow will prove to be very productive and much less tedious than continuously setting and unsetting selection filters.
