Hi,

I am new to calculating airflow velocities across panel filters and would really appreciate some help.

Can somebody give me the formula to do this in metric?

I have two units and one unit has an airflow of 971 L/s. Filter client wants to use is 1155mm X 450mm X 25mm.

971L/s corresponds to 0.971m3/s. If the filter size is 1.155m x 0.45m then the total face area is 1.155*0.45 = 0.51975m2. So the face velocity is 0.971/0.5197 = 1.87m/s or 368fpm. This seems to be very low and you can go for a smaller size filter if you want to save the investment. You can go minimum upto 500fpm or 2.54m/s.

You should check with the filter manufacturer, some types of filters have more or less air pressure drop. Also some filters require prefilters which add even more pressure drop. Sometimes you need to increase the size of the filter to keep the pressure drop within the capabilities of the air handler.
