Help! I'm new to Ideas (version 12). I am working for a consulting firm that has taken on a small project for a client. The job is done but I can't seem to find the files to send to the client. I've been working with the bin and library, have everything checked in to the library and now need to get native files out. I don't know where they are. Some are in the scratch folder but not all. Are the files located somewhere on the company's server? When I send models - do I need to include both the mf1 and mf2 files?

FYI - the company has used Ideas for several years as a meshing tool but not for design. Nobody here knows how to output files to a customer. Seems odd to me.

Thanks for the help - Dadelar

hi, normally in library checked i-deas objects are stored in the team\shared folder.

The big issue is what kind of i-deas objects are we talking about?
2D-drafting, put it all in one model-file and send it to the customer.
Anything related to 3D requires more attention - you don't want to break relations between parts, assemblies, calculation and drawings.

If all of your work is about new objects not relating to anything in library i think the best package is in a model-file.

If the data is checked in and relates to other objects I'm in somehow deep water - no expert in exporting with relations intact - which I guess is essential.

And yes, you need both the mf1 and mf2-files.

Thanks Mikethebik - that helps... somewhat. The files that I'm dealing with are simple part files, assembly models and drawings. I might be able to figure this out through the library although all the files are not currently in the same model file. Shows what kind of problems inexperience and just playing around can cause.

There are many good reasons to use "I-DEAS Library Data" export, found under File -> Export.

And there's also good reasons to not use Model Files to Export and Import data.

To uphold the Master Model principal and retain associativity between different versions of the same data I'd recommend exporting an I-DEAS Library Data package.

If you do use this method ensure you send everything that the system exports on to your customer without changing any filenames.

Good Luck.

The most correct way to do it, as RCDLtd said, is through exporting library data. When you do so you create the *.prt, (parts), *.asm (assemblys) etc. and a *.pkg file. This pkg file is the one that has the information about the relationship between parts, and assemblies.

When the new user imports this information new libraries in his managing system will be created.

Another way to do it is sending the model file itself (mfi and mf2). It is not the correct one, but it will work
