finding the difference between graphite and impregnated graphite

Hi,

I am holding a graphite part and I am trying to find out if it is impregnated or not. It is used for wear.

What should I look for?

Have you seen it under SEM? You can see the graphite morphology clearly. On a similar note as a first attempt,you may look into several published literature on Al graphite composites. They are sure to have provided the treatments provided to the graphite ,interface structure etc.
