Finite Capacity Planning in a Job Shop. 2

I am in need of assistance in making a case for switching from Infinite to Finite Capacity Planning in a medium Job Shop setting (60 or so bodies). I am still a green engineer and am still trying to figure out how to make my cases for change.

Do you mean changing from wishful thinking to reality? Be prepared for a mind boggling amount of denial from the sales department. I remember having a long argument with one of our salespeople who simply refused to agree that there was any limit to production. His response was "just work overtime", "just add equipment", "just run faster", etc.

Pretty straightforward, really. The fundamental metrics and how to calculate them are fairly well covered in Groover's text books on Manufacturing. The calculations haven't changed much over the decades, maybe you can find a previous-edition used text cheap. Cycle times, product mix, plant capacity, efficiencies, availability, utilization, yadda yadda yadda.

At least you'll be able to present DATA vs OPINION in the face of always-optimistic-salesman-who-deserves-a-death-by-clubbing.
