Hi everybody. OK, here it goes: I need to predict the sound a vibrating body would emit if this is struck with another body. For example, a glass of water that is hit with a spoon. Is there any FEA software capable of doing this?
Thank you!

Yes there is, but the complexities of the system you have described make me think that a hand calculation would be just as (in)accurate.

You have: an impact calculation. This could be handled by say LS DYNA or ABAQUS or ...

This then sets up vibrations in the glass, which are damped by the water/solid interaction. ABAQUS might be a good choice for this.

Also some tiny proportion of the vibrational energy is radiated acoustically, SYSNOISE would be my choice.

I have a strong suspicion you could do the entire job in ABAQUS

The general strategy described by Greg is similar to what I would try and do, although I am not familiar with abaqus. But as Greg also alluded to in the start, I would have limited faith in overall reults. Physical measuremnts of parts (or all) of the preocess would certainly be a help.

Thank you very much Greg and antti. I've checked out the websites of the software you recommended me and SYSNOISE seems to be the best option since it estimates the sound in the near field of the structure.Do you happen to know an estimate of the price for SYSNOISE? I am already asking for a quotation but it is going to take a while.
Thank you very much!

Somewhere between 30000 and 120000 US, probably towards the upper range of that.

If you really have a structure immersed in fluid, you need to be sure that the software can handle virtual mass. This will have large impact on the dynamics. (And this is not just damping from the water)
