Why must a pitot reading be obtained at the flowing hydrant? A static pressure and residual pressure could be obtained for the flowing hydrant and the differential be used to estimate flow using Bernoulli's. What am I missing?
Sorry if this has been addressed before I did search the forums.

You may wish to refer also to AWWA MOP M17, "Installation, Field Testing, and Maintenance of Fire Hydrants" for additional information/requirements.

jmenscu,

You're not missing anything. You can do what you suggest but the pitot reading is considered better practice. Besides, if you do all three readings you will have a check on the results because you can then calculate the flow two ways.

good luck

Thank you; Sam74, rconner and RWF7437. I appreciate the help and understand the desire to have duplicate data. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any fundamental assumptions in the hydraulics.
