I've have selected a 1" and 3" Fisher V-Port Ball Valve 600#, with pneumatic actuation and 4-20ma positioner. My local distributor is lacking in customer service and timeliness in answering questions, to the point that I'd like to know if anyone knows of a suitable equivalent valve from a different manufacturer. A brand/model would be sufficient to point me in the right direction. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know sales are not allowed on this forum, and I have contributed many times keeping my salesmanship in check. However I must urge you to give this valve and company another shot, this is a great valve we have used with enormous success in many applications. It is NOT a standard ball valve, but used more for control.

I am the Fisher Rep for my area and will probably be able to get you help, if not through me (we have strict area limitations) than direct through the factory. Get to our web site and give us another try.....

You sound angry with a particular sales person more than the product. I understand. Me too. The Emerson valve representatives are usually pretty good but the same cannot be said of all sales people. I am about to place an order that includes a few V-500 ball valves in addition to about 100 others in various services. Emerson provides sales and product support throughout the globe. My sales guy is not responsive to my requirements either. He may not yet know that he just lost a big order for severe service valves that went to another large international valve supplier.

For another ball style control valve manufacturer I would consider Neles Jamesbury. I have only bought a few and they included severe service trim.

If you must go to another manufacturer you could search the web for a few others. The original VeeBall patent ran out long ago thus several other companies sell similar products. SPX DeZurik sells V-Ball clones. I have never bought a DeZurik valve but think that they are used in the pulp and paper business. A quick web search also identified SVF.

If the V-200 is the right selection, I would not recommend going out of your way to find a different product due to sales person issues. You are spending lots of other peoples money and the valve needs to work. OTOH, it can feel good to place a large order with another peddler if your sales person is a jerk.

BTW, you really have to go out of your way to place a PO for those products with a different representative. Your manager might not be amused.

Thanks for the feedback all. Joesteam, think I can contact you and get some help?

thrusterpump,

Customer service can be the over-riding factor in value and selection of any supplier. There are sites that have made a particular brand into plant standard because supplier is responsive and able to deliver quickly from local stock. The purchase cost of an item is very small compared to the lost business costs of perhaps $200,000 / day.

As a former Fisher factory person, I also can tell you that some customer service reps do it strictly by the book, and are not flexible to meet urgent situations. It can be productive to get higher level management involved (both inside Fisher and from your corporate purchasing group -dealing with a different area sales rep).

If you are in a remote area with few distributors, then you might have to find suppliers with good communications staff and best shipping providers to your site. If there are a couple of competitive distributors in your area, consider yourself fortunate.

Perhaps one other vendor for rotary control valve might be Masoneilan, but then service availability in your area might also be a concern.

Although the brand mentioned pioneered V-Ball valves, many others have joined that market segment. Not all of the competitors have class 600 valves, but by the time you are needing a class 600 ball valve you had better be paying some serious attention to the application parameters such as cavitation or noise.

Other V-Ball suppliers: (Sector valves is another term for that type of construction) Neles was mentioned.
Masoneilan, Samson, Valtek, and NAF are there also, as well as the low cost lines such as Marwin. I don't know amout Marwin, but the other lines I mentioned are global.

Then you have lines such as Worcester that have the V in the seat instead of the ball. Better for control, not as good for slurries. V-seat controls and another seat is dedicated for shutoff.

Dezurik vee ball valve may be equivalent.

Refer to UOP standard pipe classification...
