I want to perform a calculation for a Flange with External loads acting on it.Find the below details:
Size = 3"150#
MAWP = 244.322 psi
Design Temperature =181degF
Flange material = SA 105
Bolting Material= SA 193M Gr.B7
Corrosion Allowance= 3mm
As per new Interpretation (BPV VIII-1-16-85) we have to check whether the flange can withstand the external loads acting on it.
I have performed the calculations as per Appendix-2 but due to less bolt area than the actual required PV Elite will terminate the further Calculations.
Also a standard flange with external loads cannot be calculated as per Appendix-2 as it does not covers these section.
I have tried to convert the loadings into pressure but still it doesnt works.

Can someone suggest me proper steps of calculation to be performed for these flanges?

Thanks in advance.

Follow the approach in PVP2013-97814. It employs a modified Equivalent Pressure calculation with a factor (greater than 1.0) on the rating pressure.

Thanks for your reply.

But i could not find any reference regarding to this. Can you send me the link for the file?
