Is there a free flange design software/spreadsheet/program available ?<br>
Can we use a Ring Gasket of Class 150 Flange for Class 900 Valve Cover flange provided the flange design requirements as per ASME Sec VIII are met with ?

It is unlikely that the 150# gasket would work well. If you are talking spiral wound, the 150# gasket is designed for less squeeze by having a less dense filler. Corrugated metal gaskets will work at low pressures but fail at higher pressures. Go with a design that is proven unless you have the time to prove it yourself at the temperature and pressure range you are interested in. Talk to your vendor.
 
Does anyone know where I can get a spreadsheet/formula for calculating the minimum thickness required for a 42&quot; diameter carbon steel flange at 15 psig and 70F?

Can anyone tell me where to find background information about the &quot;Kellogg method&quot; and the &quot;Blick method&quot; for checking piping systems against flange lekage due to external moments and forces. For the Kellogg method I know the formula, but I'm particulaly interested in the maximum allowable pressure to check that against, having seen someone use 1.5 times the nominal flange rating.
 
Is anyone aware of a section of the code that describes requirements for the height of the raised face on an RF flange/nozzle? For example, I know 900# flanges have a 1/4&quot; tall raised face per B16.5. However, I also have seen carbon steel flanges which have 3/16&quot; overlay for corrosion protection and the raised face height is 1/16&quot; Was curious about the rationale. I need to design a CS flange for strength with overlay for corrosion protection. I have browsed through Section VIII Part UG-34 but have not (yet) found anything.
 
Standard flange geometry is defined by the applicable standard (e.g. ASME B16.5) and this includes also the raised face geometry, that is normally determined by functional requisites more than by structural ones.
In designing a flange that will interface a standard flange you should preferably follow the geometry of the applicable standard: the overlay for corrosion protection can be machined after application to have the raised height as per standard.

Is there any flange design analysis paper illustrating the FEA techniques of flange design, preferably on the internet?
 
What is the pressure in a nitrogen cylinder.The volume of the cylinder is approx 50 lts. The supplier mentions that the pressure is 100 bar and volume is 7 m3. Is this true? How many hours the cylinder will last if the discharge is at the rate of 15 mililitres per minute and at 1.4 bar.Can anybody explain?

 
The figure given by your supplier sounds correct. You can roughly multiply the volume of the cylinder by the pressure in bar to get the expanded volume of a gas such as nitrogen or air.
At that discharge rate you have more than 5000 hours: this is easily calculated from the volume (the pressure of 1.4 bar makes not a huge difference).
