Greetings,
Does anyone have a copy of Taylor Forge's "Design of Flanges For Flat Face Gaskets - Engineering Department Bulletin No. 45". I have a 1999 fax from an engineer at McInnes Rolled Rings with a few pages describing the design method and the design worksheets for slip-on and weld neck flanges, but would love to get the full bulletin.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

U076762, I recently got hold of TF Bulletin 502, 7th Ed. in PDF format. They are still in business, and can furnish it. I don't have contact info in front of me just now but will provide it later.

If you are not famliar, Bulletin 502, 7th contains a full face gasket design method, as well as ring gasket methods. Never heard of Bulletin 45, though. Can you scan it?

Thanks for your reply. Bulletin 502, Ed. VII has the design worksheet and an example for a full face slip-on only. The fax I have contained the actual cover of Bulletin 45 so I know it exists. It contained a worksheet for a Weld-Neck so I am sure there are more.

By the way, I am pretty sure that there are errors in 502 for the full face slip-on sheet and in the example. The H'GY uses a capital Y in the formula and it should be lower case y. In the example, the Wm2 value is wrong and they did not apply the bolt spacing factor.

I can scan what I have next week and will attempt to upload it. Hopefully I can track a person through McInnes Rolled Rings that has the entire bulletin 45.

U076762, It's true, there are some editorial errors in Bulletin #502, however the methods presented are correct as far as I know.

Slip-on vs weld neck, it appears to me the loads and moment arms are applicable to either based on the gepmetry involved, with the stresses calculated per the appropriate worksheet, accounting for the weld neck shape factors, etc.

I have a copy of Taylor Forge's "Design of Flanges For Flat Face Gaskets - Engineering Department Bulletin No. 45" but I do not know how to get the info to you (by email). It has worksheets & all kinds of flanges (including weld neck).

I assume that a rule of this web site is not to post email addresses (I tried this am & it was removed). However, I originally obtained my copy from this web site because the (original) posting said that the firm of Taylor Forge do NOT work in this area, any more, & do not have copies of the bulletin.

 
I did a search of this web site & found the following, thread181-27567, but the site that contined the original copy, is empty.

Perhaps someone who knows the history, can replace the copy?

 
Sorry all, I jumped in too quick with an answer - that should have been "Taylor Forge Bulletin 502 flange design" on my previous threads (& the reference to thread181-27567).

 
I have recently gotten a PDF of Bulleting #502 from Taylor Forge, see thread794-202239.

I don't know if it is proper for me to just post a link to it here or not. I would prefer for now that others get a copy from Taylor Forge.

However if a publication is out of print, I suppose it is in the "public domain" and uploading is acceptable.

I should look for an FAQ on this.

I need this Taylor Forge Engineering Department Bulletin No. 45 info also. Finding this info is almost as hard as navigating around this Eng-Tips site. I see the people who have this info but have no way of getting to them! Help!

This is my first attempt at uploading a file in this forum. The link is to a .jpg scan of a Full Face Welding Neck Worksheet. It looks like it was from an earlier version of Bulletin 502 (before Edition VII). It is also identical to the worksheet in 502 ed. VII for a slip-on flange. I have a few more scans of part of Bulletin 45 if wanted.

Design of all these flanges is covered in engineering software.

Much faster and far more accurate than spreadsheets and guess graphs.

Flange design is available to ASME VIII, (BS) PD5500 and EN13445, with a geometry database for all B16.5, B16.47A/B and API6A/B flanges.
